Crafting new products takes time, a lot of testing, and a lot of mistakes. However, thanks to Computer-Aided Design, we can cut Research & Development time, and costs by up to 90%.
KPMG tasked their in-house designer to create a new concept for the East Africa Top 100 Companies trophy. The design was great.
One problem though… they could not settle on the material the trophy would be made of.

The trophy’s design sketches were provided, as well as some material types to work with. The objective was to create photo-realistic versions of the soon-to-be-launched trophy. These would give the KPMG team an easier time selecting the best and most visually appealing trophy material.
We started with the 3D modeling of the trophy concept using Autodesk Maya. The 3D model was then tweaked to meet all requirements and dimensions. The third step of the process was to pose the trophy model and light it properly to provide realistic reflections and refraction. We used Autodesk 3DS Max for this part. Finally, the material visualization process began using Vray.
The client requested to have the trophy visualized as Wood, Black Titanium, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Glass.
The final decision was easy.
Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
