What's with the name ScytheFX?

Well, that’s a bit of a long story. I’ll try to keep it brief. Let’s start with the pronunciation…
Scythe is pronounced as /sʌɪð/ or saith. In Old English, it was sīthe.
It is a tool for cutting crops such as grass or maize, with a long curved blade at the end of a long pole attached to one or two short handles. Even more recognizably, it is the sickle-looking thing that the Grim Reaper carries around.

The FX stands for special effects, as we know them from TV and film.
Why name a company after the mythical soul reaper tool?
As young, impressionable adults, getting into the world of business often means working closely with friends. It is also the exact moment that the ‘crew’ is busy making hairy, audacious goals for each of their futures. The world is virtually a playground at that time.
Being a complete fan of the cartoon show “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy,” I went for the coolest thing I’d seen on TV. The often-used scythe. In my mind, it meant overcoming the greatest fear known to man: death. It sounded great too.
I started going by ‘Scythe Studio’ when handling freelancing projects. A close friend who was very much into cars pointed out that the name was too plain. He proposed adding a little something to ‘zhuzh it up’. He suggested FX on the first try. I was immediately sold on the idea.
With the name taking shape, I had to assign a proper meaning to it. As it currently stands, the name Scythe FX Studio, usually written as ScytheFX Studio, means Death by Art.
Remember ‘Death by Chocolate’? It means an exquisite life-exit caused by over-indulgence in chocolate cake. For us at ScytheFX Studio, it is very much the same. We hope for the most exquisite departure caused by over-indulgence in Art & Creativity, whatever that may look like.
The name also literally means ‘Cutting-edge Special Effects Studio‘ – a great representation of what we stand for! ~shameless plug
FYI, the artworks and video you’ve just scrolled past are personal projects done on my journey to fully understanding 3D software. The grass really is computer generated.
I am yet to get ‘there’.
Positive side? I may never have to since humanity’s new baby is growing up at an alarming rate. It will be automating all this for us now.

Hoping that we never need to use that statement, ever.
